Once again I am very sorry for the long time between blogs. I have been very busy here in Brazil with exchange student things, going vacation to the beach with my second host family for a week, and working on college applications. I hope to post more but I have a lot of things coming up within the next couple of months that it might be a month or so between blogs, but I will try to post as much as possible.
So a lot has happened since my lost blog. I was involved with the Independence Day parade here in my city and it was actually a lot of fun. I went with the Interact club here and it was Julia, Ana Laura, and I and some past exchange students from Arapongas were in it too. I made a blog about it and I will be posting it soon.
I also went into the city of Londrina a couple of times to spend time with the exchange students there and I got to meet some Brazilians and a guy from Germany who was there for 6 weeks on an internship, I think. We had a lot of fun, we went to a party and it was one of the best nights of my exchange. The next time I went, we went shopping at the mall with about 8 of the exchange students and we also went out again afterwards. I also made pancakes for Syble’s (from Nebraska) family, Julia, and I. They were really good and we actually put ice cream in between two pancakes and that was very good too.
Julia, Ana, and I went to bingo a couple of weekends ago and I came so close to winning 4 times. Two times they were calling the numbers of the cards and mine was 227 and they called 226 and 228. Then during bingo, there were two times where I just needed one number left. The first time I needed 19 and they called 20, and the next time I needed 30 and they called 31… not my luck I guess haha.
During the first week of October, my school had these thing where the students would break out into different groups and present the different professions that the school offered. The first day they did this, it was during the night so parents could come and look at it, and the next day it was during the day and people from other schools would come and see the different professions. That week I only had one actual day of school, because Monday we didn’t have to go to school, Tuesday they were working on their presentations so we (Julia, Ana, and I) just watched and helped some of our friends, Wednesday was when the other students came so we just watched the presentations, Thursday was the only really day of school because on Friday I left with my second host family to go to the beach in Santa Caterina.
The beach was a lot of fun, but the drive was not fun at all. We left at 7 in the morning and got there at 7 at night and it was only supposed be about an 8 hour drive… We didn’t really do that much we just relaxed a lot and that was fine with me. The first day we went to the mall and to the movies. My host sister and I saw IT and I really enjoyed it and I was pretty surprised when it started because it was in English with Portuguese subtitles. I was surprised that it was in English but later found out that it was because most Brazilians prefer it that way because when they translate it, it doesn’t line up at all. The next day we went to the beach for about 20 minutes but decided to leave because it was very cold, and later that night we went to a Mexican restaurant which was very delicious. We also went to Cristo Luz, I think that’s the name, and it’s pretty much like the statue in Rio but a little different, and they are still finishing it up, but it was still very cool to see. We also went up to the top of a mountain and we could see the whole city and the city next to it, and I can say it was very beautiful. I had a great time and I did not want to come back, but I had to…
Today was my first day back at school and it was okay I guess, but the beach is a lot better. My Portuguese is coming alone. I can understand almost everything, I’m just having issues with speaking it but I am trying.
